Day 35 – the Moral Law within us
... the requirements of the law are written on their hearts. –PAUL, the apostle
We have now come full-circle in our Argument from Fairness. We have noted that everyone has tended to look at life and cry, "That's not fair!" We have seen that if unfairness exists in the universe, then fairness (a system of justice) must exist as well. We have observed how inconsistent and hypocritical the atheist appears, one moment alleging that the universe has no real justice or absolute right or wrong, then the next moment proclaiming—as he retaliates against people who have stacked the odds against him—that it's his absolute right to do so. The atheist wants to have it both ways. He wants to say there is no such thing as fairness in the world, but he wants to live as if there is. It is my assertion that he is forced to live that way, for that's the way the universe is made. It is a universe with a thread of justice run through it. Only when the atheist sees this will he realize that the way he looks at the universe, the whole foundation of his atheism, is wrong.
Contrast this with people who believe in God. They proclaim that God created this universe and imposed upon it His own sense of justice and morality. When things appear unjust, they can say "That's not fair!" and not be called a hypocrite. When people act badly, they can say "That's not right!" and not be considered inconsistent. They believe that fairness exists in the universe and that the existence of God is the only explanation for it. They recognize that all human beings have a God-given sense of right and wrong, a Moral Law, "written on their hearts."
