Day 28 – The universe: three alternatives
The fact of evil in no way eliminates the reality of God.
–STEVE KUMAR
It turns out, then, that all the commotion made by atheists about disorder in the universe is nothing but an attempt at diversion. All they trying to do is get us off-track, to distract us from the subject at hand. That subject is whether or not God exists. Regarding it, we have already concluded that the universe's intricate design implies the presence of a Designer God. This implication does not change if disorder is also seen within His design. It is God's character, a later subject, that is called into question by this disorder, not His existence. Any design-gone-bad is still a design and must have a designer behind it.
When faced with the Argument from Design, the atheist is thus left with only three rational alternatives:
1. He or she may claim that the universe is eternal and in no
need of a Designer.
2. He or she may claim that the universe is an illusion and in
no need of a Designer.
3. He or she may admit that the universe had a beginning and
requires a Designer.
These are the only options open to the atheist. As far as I am concerned, he or she does not have the option of turning our attention to the universe's disarray. That is merely a diversionary tactic. From a rational standpoint, this disarray has everything to do with God's nature, but it has no bearing at all on His existence.
The sooner the religious seeker sees this, the better.
