A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that parents are smarter and wiser than he gives them credit for. (He can wait
until he’s thirty-six, like most people do, before realizing this. But why wait
twenty years?)
2
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that she can do great things now. (Remember: William R. Featherstone wrote
the words to My Jesus, I Love Thee when
he was sixteen.)
3
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that tomorrow is not guaranteed. (Remember: William R. Featherstone died
at the age of twenty-five. What if he decided to wait until he was thirty to
accomplish his goals?)
4
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that true friends make you a better person, not a worse one. (If he hangs
around people who encourage him to
misbehave and go astray, he has no friends.)
5
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that he or she is no longer a child and must put away childish behavior.
(Prisons are filled with people who have refused to become men and women.)
6
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that she is not yet an adult and has a lot yet to learn. (That’s why our
Founding Fathers did not give sixteen-year-olds the right to vote.)
7
A sixteen-year-old needs to
learn from the past, live in the present, and plan for the future. (Such a
balanced outlook is a hallmark of all great men and women.)
8
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that seeking advice is a sign of strength, not weakness. (Of course, whom
he seeks advice from is extremely important. His parents would be a good choice
– see #1 above.)
9
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that she will someday marry someone she dates. (This should put dating in
its proper place and increase the chance of a happy marriage.)
10
A sixteen-year-old needs to
know that God exists and that Jesus is Savior. (If he or she builds a life on
this foundation, all the above will fall into place.)
